Unlike older strip surgery (FUT) methods, FUE extracts individual follicular units from the donor area, typically the back and sides of the head, leaving no linear scar and allowing a faster recovery.
The Procedure
FUE is performed under local anaesthetic as a day case. Using a motorised 0.8mm punch, individual follicular units containing 1-4 hairs are harvested from the donor zone and transplanted into recipient sites created with precision micro-incisions.
Recovery and Results
Most patients return to work within 5-7 days. The transplanted hairs shed at 2-4 weeks (this is normal), with new growth appearing from month 3. Full results are typically visible at 12-18 months. The transplanted hair is permanent as it retains the genetic characteristics of the donor area.
