Profhilo Bio-Remodelling

Profhilo is a brand of injectable hyaluronic acid used as a bio-remodelling treatment. Unlike a conventional filler it is not cross-linked to hold shape, and unlike a standard skin booster it is delivered to a small number of defined points from which it spreads through the tissue plane.

How it works

The product is placed at set anatomical points, commonly five per side of the face, chosen to avoid major vessels. The high concentration of hyaluronic acid hydrates the tissue and is intended to stimulate collagen and elastin production over the following weeks.

What is involved

• Course: conventionally two sessions four weeks apart.
• Treatment time: around 15 to 20 minutes.
• Duration: commonly around six months before repeat treatment is considered.

Risks and limitations

Raised bumps at the injection points are expected and usually settle within a day or two. Bruising and tenderness are common. General injectable risks apply.

This is a skin-quality treatment. It does not add contour, lift sagging tissue or remove lines caused by muscle movement, and it will not substitute for a filler or a surgical lift where those are what the anatomy calls for. Published evidence is limited in volume and much of it is industry-funded, so results should be expected to be modest.

Regulation in the UK

Non-surgical cosmetic injectables are not yet subject to a licensing scheme in England. At present no qualification, training or medical registration is legally required to administer dermal filler. The Health and Care Act 2022 created the legal framework for a licensing scheme, but it has not been fully implemented. Since 1 October 2021 it has been a criminal offence in England to administer dermal filler or injectable muscle-relaxing treatments for a cosmetic purpose to anyone under 18.

Because of this, the single most useful thing to check is who is treating you: their professional registration (GMC, GDC, NMC or GPhC), what training they have in the specific procedure, what insurance they hold, and what happens if there is a complication out of hours.
