CoolSculpting is a brand of cryolipolysis, a non-surgical treatment that cools a defined pocket of fat to a temperature at which fat cells are damaged while the overlying skin is spared. Damaged cells are then cleared gradually by the body.
Numbness, redness, swelling, bruising and a firm or tender feeling in the treated area are usual and settle over days to a few weeks. Some people experience a period of altered or uncomfortable sensation in the weeks after treatment.
Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH) is a recognised complication in which the treated fat pad enlarges rather than shrinks, typically becoming apparent two to five months afterwards. It does not resolve on its own and generally requires liposuction to correct. It is uncommon, but anyone considering cryolipolysis should be told about it before treatment, and it is reasonable to ask a provider directly how they handle it.
Other risks include prolonged numbness, contour irregularity and, rarely, late-onset pain requiring treatment.
This is a contouring treatment for discrete pockets of fat in people near their target weight. It is not a weight-loss treatment, it does not tighten skin, and where skin laxity is the main issue, reducing the fat beneath can make the appearance worse.

Your practitioner identifies treatable areas and develops a customised treatment plan. Before photographs are taken.
The CoolSculpting applicator is placed on the treatment area. You may feel intense cold for the first few minutes, which quickly subsides.
Each cycle takes 35-60 minutes. You can read, work on your laptop, or relax during the treatment.
Fat cells are gradually eliminated over 2-3 months. Full results visible at 3-4 months post-treatment.
Mild redness and swelling at the treatment area is normal. Apply cool compresses as advised by your practitioner. Avoid touching the treated area.
Swelling begins to subside. You may experience mild bruising which can be concealed with makeup. Resume normal daily activities with care.
Initial results become visible. Any bruising should have resolved. Follow-up check with your practitioner to assess progress and address any concerns.
Treatment has fully settled with optimal results now visible. Final review appointment to evaluate outcome and discuss maintenance programme.
The whole experience from consultation to aftercare was exceptional. The team made me feel completely at ease and the results exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Axiom Aesthetics to anyone considering this treatment.
