Chemical peels remain one of the most versatile tools in aesthetic dermatology. By applying controlled chemical solutions to the skin, peels remove damaged outer layers to reveal fresher, healthier skin beneath.

Types of Chemical Peels

Superficial Peels (Lunchtime Peels)

Using alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) at low concentrations. Ideal for dull skin, mild pigmentation, and fine lines. Minimal downtime — slight redness for a few hours. Perfect for first-timers and maintenance treatments.

Medium-Depth Peels

Typically using trichloroacetic acid (TCA) at 20–35%. Treats moderate wrinkles, acne scarring, and stubborn pigmentation. Recovery takes 5–7 days with visible peeling. Dramatic improvement in skin texture and tone.

Deep Peels

Using phenol or high-concentration TCA. Reserved for severe sun damage, deep wrinkles, and significant scarring. Requires careful patient selection and extended recovery (2–3 weeks). Produces the most dramatic results.

Choosing the Right Peel

Your practitioner will assess your skin type (Fitzpatrick scale), concerns, lifestyle, and acceptable downtime to recommend the optimal peel for you.

Pre-Treatment Preparation

  • Discontinue retinoids 5–7 days before treatment
  • Avoid sun exposure and use SPF 50 religiously
  • Inform your practitioner of all medications and skincare products
