Navigating aesthetic treatments during pregnancy and breastfeeding requires careful consideration. At Axiom Aesthetics, patient safety is our absolute priority. Here is our evidence-based guide to what is safe, what to avoid, and what to postpone.
Treatments to Avoid During Pregnancy
- Botulinum toxin (Botox): Not tested in pregnancy — avoided as a precaution
- Dermal fillers: Not recommended due to insufficient safety data
- Chemical peels (medium/deep): Risk of unpredictable skin reactions due to hormonal changes
- Laser treatments: Avoided due to hormonal pigmentation sensitivity
- Retinoid-based skincare: Contraindicated — vitamin A derivatives carry teratogenic risk
- IPL treatments: Not recommended during pregnancy
Treatments Generally Considered Safe
- Facials (gentle): Cleansing, hydrating, and enzyme-based facials
- Dermaplaning: Physical exfoliation with no chemicals
- LED light therapy: Non-invasive, no UV radiation
- Pregnancy-safe skincare: Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, mineral SPF
- Massage: Prenatal massage for wellbeing (after first trimester)
Post-Pregnancy Considerations
We recommend waiting at least 3–6 months post-partum before resuming injectable treatments, and until after breastfeeding for most procedures. This allows hormones to stabilise and reduces the risk of unpredictable results.
