Laser hair removal remains one of the most popular aesthetic treatments in the UK, offering a long-term solution to unwanted body and facial hair. Modern laser technology has made the treatment faster, more comfortable, and effective for a wider range of skin tones than ever before.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
Lasers emit concentrated light energy that is absorbed by melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle. This energy converts to heat, damaging the follicle and inhibiting future growth. The treatment is most effective during the active growth phase (anagen), which is why multiple sessions are required.
Treatment Areas
- Face (upper lip, chin, jawline, sideburns)
- Underarms
- Bikini and Brazilian
- Legs (full or lower)
- Back and chest (popular with men)
- Arms and hands
How Many Sessions?
Most patients require 6–8 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart, depending on the treatment area. Hormonal areas (face, bikini) may require additional sessions. Most patients achieve 80–90% permanent hair reduction.
The Latest Technology
Modern diode and Nd:YAG lasers are safe for Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI, meaning patients with darker skin tones can now be treated safely and effectively.
Preparing for Treatment
- Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment
- Avoid sun exposure and fake tan for 2 weeks prior
- Do not wax or pluck for 4 weeks before treatment
- Discontinue photosensitising medications if possible
